The official game has never been officially released in Mainland China, nor does it play in Simplified Chinese.

It would largely depend on which service carrier runs your internet. Some are better with connections to Nintendo Switch Online than others. As for the Wii U, most feed back I see did not complain about connection failures: Most problems seems to be with online multiplayer.
Splatoon 2, Octopath Traveler Demo, Captain Toad, DK Tropical freeze and many other non-Chinese supported titles are all labeled with Chinese support on Nintendo HK's official website.
It is unknown if these are mere human error or if they hint potential future Chinese addition.

A single brick & mortar game store (that also sells games online) in Shanghai ordered 2,640 copies. Prices have been hiking on Taobao.
This is a very remarkable achievement for a country where the game is not officially distributed and few official advertisements are present.

The Nintendo Switch was one of the gaming devices approved during the approval period of the first quarter, which is open from Mar 5th to Mar 13th.
This is the time frame when console & game developers could submit their products in for approval.

The iQue is not "closed" as the company no longer functions. The company was deprived of its distributor duty and works solely as a localization center since then.
Proof? Yoshi's Crafted World was localized into S. Chinese by iQue.

Those who purchase AA on the HK shop are not missing anything. Yet, this is not their only choice: The versions sold in other regions could very well come with Chinese support too, simultaneously with the version sold on the HK eShop.
