Now I've played Rolling Star Galaxy with traditional controls, here are my feels:
First of all, there's still some challenge. You will not get the same level of agility of Mario on foot. If you give the stick a quick tap when the ball is at rest, it won't stop after a few secs.

It is still impossible to do a sudden turn when the ball is moving at high speed, but at lower speed the ball is still pretty easy to manuver.
I still lost 4 lives on this level, but all were lost on attemping to grab the large "?" coins, which I didn't even dare in the original.

In the ShieldTV port of Super Mario Galaxy, the A button is used to jump/talk while the RT button is used to drag Pull Stars/Sling Pods.
My initial theory was that this port mapped the Wii Remote A button to both the A and RT buttons on the Shield controller, but this was false.

The truth is, you CANNOT use the RT button to jump, nor can you use the A button to interact with Pull Stars. It's true that both actions are tied to the A button on the Wii release, but in the Shield port, they managed to separate the actions. I have no idea how they did this.

A button only: Jump/talk/respond to the "button A" promt of the speech box.

RT button only: Pull Stars/Sling Pods
Both: UI navigation by pointing the Wii remote at the TV in the Wii version.

IMPORTANT: The four Nintendo games are included as download codes, which SHOULD eliminate the need for a Chinese credit card.
If you plan to import the Chinese NVIDIA Shield, it's probably the best time to get it now.

There is also a very interesting detail about this promotion:
The price of the "Special Edition" is just the same as the original MSRP without Nintendo games.
However, instead of advertising free Nintendo games, NVIDIA advertised a "272 RMB discount" (Nintendo games are 68 each)

This change is further emphasized by NVIDIA's revision on their official wechat account.
The top article, titled on playing Nintendo games for free, was deleted and replaced by the bottom article, which now emphasized the discount.

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to save the first article on wayback machine, but memory tells me that the contents are mostly, if not 100% identical.

Translations for the two titles:
Original:
"If only you could play Nintendo games for free...What? You really can?!"
Revision:
"Save 272 RMB Now! SHIELD Nintendo Special Edition now avaliable!"

Also, NVIDIA wishes everyone a National Day holiday that is "As Cool as Link, as Powerful As Little Mac, as Cute as Mario, and as Environmentally Friendly as Luigi".
The National Day holiday provides 7 consecutive days off, the longest in the entire year.

It should. Unfortunately I did not see anything about Mario Kart from their latest weibo or wechat article.

I think it's more that they wanted to properly reflect Nintendo's value on software, that they should not be considered "free" or "cheap" easily.
I think I read one of Nintendo's statements on this recently, but I couldn't remember the exact words.

Not really, I think it's just Nintendo. I personally think the "free" keyword is a golden word like it is in the West, but the problem is, most older (Pre-2010) Nintendo games are mostly played in China via piracy.

I think it has to do with his iconic color. "Green" can be used to express environmental friendliness in the Chinese language too.

It has popularity but not as crazy as it is in Japan (probably because weibo censors porno image).
Saw some great artwork on Pixiv by many Chinese-speaking artists.
The Chinese name is 库巴姬.

I don't think so. I set the console language to English and the games are still in Chinese.
