Mario Odyssey's HK site used Japanese name for Super Mario Sunshine while Mario Sunshine's Chinese name was already registered as trademark.
The registered name is "超级马力欧太阳之光"(Super Mario the Rays of the Sun)
Different from the common and more literal translation"超级马里奥阳光"。 https://twitter.com/chinesenintendo/status/881883964868141056
Credits to @rt2w_cn for the discovery. https://twitter.com/chinesenintendo/status/881883964868141056
Replying to @bmastertoronto
It was registered by Nintendo, as all the other Mario names before. Also the trademark name didn't match any of the common ones.

An interesting note:

"Except 3DS, none are officially sold in HK." https://twitter.com/chinesenintendo/status/884295502707048448
This is because that Nintendo HK once sold an original 3DS (Japanese region lock)sans internet functionalities as "the beginner's handheld". https://twitter.com/chinesenintendo/status/884295953439531008

Yes. Pic 3 and 4 is the SM3DL that works on HK/TW 3DS(XL) only.
Pic 1 and 2 is the version for Japanese 3DS series only.
Replying to @raymondshitman
This is real. Yep. It seems that Nintendo HK's realized how many in HK/TW were actually buying Japanese 3DS. Hope there's OOT for Jap too.
Replying to @raymondshitman
English OOT 3D for Jap 3DS? I don't know if they'll do that.
But they might do Chinese OOT 3D for Jap 3DS, which is what they did with SM3DL
Replying to @raymondshitman
Well, Nintendo HK did release Ocarina of Time 3D in Chinese back in 2012. They could just change the region locking and prepare them for Jap
Replying to @raymondshitman
I think they are, gradually. We're having Pokemon, Fire Emblem, and Mario Odyssey having Chinese support.
Also, can you read Chinese S.?
Replying to @raymondshitman
I know a nice article on how Nintendo tried in China but failed due to piracy and other stuff. Worth a read.
